Come to Lagoon Lookout Langebaan, a 4 star bed and breakfast for a great breakaway – be it restful or zestful.
Watch the sun rising over the Country Estate and Golf course and setting behind Postberg – part of the West Coast National Park — and Jutten & Schaapen islands. Our tranquil home adjoins the wild and wonderful Meeuklip farm. It overlooks almost all of Langebaan, the northern section of the lagoon and its islands. The towns of Saldanha and Vredenberg are in the distance. With boating, shipping, Defence Force activities and leisure water sport on the lagoon, our vista is forever changing. The Langebaan Yacht Club, Club Mykonos resort and small boat harbour, the iron ore and oil tanker harbour, Saldanha Bay harbour and military bases are dotted around the lagoon. During the day we share the neighbouring farm with a family of buck and other animals, birds and flowers. In the evenings there is a panoramic view of the lights in the town and surrounding area. We are conveniently close to the main beach and all the town has to offer, yet provide a haven from the village hustle and bustle.
Langebaan is only an hour and half from Cape Town and the international airport. It offers a host of activities and restaurants to while away your time.
The Langebaan entrance to the West Coast National Park, the country’s biggest wetland on the country’s biggest natural harbour, is walking distance from our front door. The park offers a variety of bird hides, saltwater and fynbos at Seeberg, the Geelbek wetlands, salt marshes and saltpans and Abrahamskraal a freshwater hide. The park is home to the renowned Geelbek Restaurant and visitors’ centre situated in Cape Dutch buildings dating back to 1744, the sheltered Kraal Bay picnic and braai area where the lagoon water is warmer and it is safe to swim, Churchhaven, Tsaarsbank for whale watching from August to November and the Postberg peninsula with a lovely picnic area at Plankiesbaai, open only during the spring flowering season from August to September. The Saldanha Bay Nature Reserve and Danger Bay are just a stone’s throw away and not much further you will find Jacobsbaai, Swartriet, Trekoskraal, Cape Colombine Nature Reserve, Tieties Bay, Paternoster, Cape St. Martin, Britannia Bay, Stompneus Bay, St Helena Bay, Velddrif and the Berg river, Laaiplek, Rocherpan, Hopefield, Darling, Yzerfontein, to name a few. There are safe, scenic hiking and cycling trails in the nature reserves to suit all fitness levels. On interesting walks or drives through the towns or to several private game farms in the area, remember to keep an eye out for the tortoises. There are 43 species of tortoises in the world. South Africa has 13 species of tortoise, eight are in the Western Cape, making it an international tortoise hotspot. It is a comfortable drive to the winelands should that tickle your fancy. For the historical inclined there are numerous museums, the Fossil Park with its fascinating outreach centre and the Ikhwa ttu san village in the area.
